September’s Harvest: Fueling Up for Fall
The arrival of September means a change of season, and it’s the perfect time to adjust your diet with what’s in harvest. This month’s table of seasonal fruits and vegetables will give you some great ideas for what to include in your meals.
As summer winds down, kids are heading back to school and we’re all preparing for the colder months ahead. It’s important to keep our bodies well-fueled, especially as the days get shorter.
For marathon runners, this is a critical time for autumn race preparation. As your mileage increases, so does your caloric need. After a long training run, a runner can feel ravenously hungry, so remember to stock up on nutrient-rich foods to help with recovery.
Grape harvest season:
In European countries, September is the main month of the grape harvest. Roughly 175 million hectoliters are produced each year in Europe. The major part of the grapes are harvested in France, Italy and Spain.

The cows spent the summer in the mountains, and the fresh cheeses are just available in our local markets or local cheese shops.

Mix these two ingredients, with local honey, grissini (breadsticks), crackers, cured meat, nuts, olives to create a lovely cheese plater:

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables:
September is the month when we have fresh brussel sprouts and peppers. They will add colours in your receipes.

Apples and pears are ideal to bring in your backpack and to prepare tasty tarts.

Nutrients for the body:
Our bodies need good nutrients to work / perform well. By eating fruits and vegetables which are in season, ensures we get the best quality nutrients.
