Rhonex Kipruto is a very talented young Kenyan runner who clocked very fast times on the 10 km distance. He is trained by coach Brother Colm O’Connel in Iten, Kenya. The Swiss Julien Wanders was full of hope to improve his own European record (27’25” in Houilles back in December).

The list of top class runners was very impressive and the results of the race are really fast.

Rhonex Kipruto ran a new world record in 26’23”. The second half of the race ran in an incredible 13’06” ! He ran as well the new 5km world record on the first 5 km in 13’18”. It is a new record created by the IAAF just one year ago.

It is not far from the track world record ran by Bekele in 26’16”. Kipruto is running with Adidas shoes (his sponsort), then we can not give the benefit of the performance to the Nike Vaporfly shoes.

Wander ran in 27’13” to get the new European Record and the third place of the race, just one second slower than Benard Kimeli.

In the ladies race, 3 of them ran sub 30 minutes. Sheila ChepKirui was very close to the world record ( Joyciline JEPKOSGEI in 2017: 29’43” ) and won in 29’46”.

Other good results from Bedrani (3000m steeple runner) 7th in 27’50”, Callum Hawkins (marathon runner) 8th in 28’01”, both with a Personal Best and a good result in the Olympic year. Daniele Meucci, the Italian marathon runner, ran in 28’08” for a new Italian national record ( previously from Stefano Baldini 28’10” in 2002).
